G.E.A.R. - Green biking for Elderly and young with Activity for Ruggedness
โถSummary
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the closure of gyms and swimming pools has reduced the motor activity of citizens and in particular of senior citizens by increasing sedentary, obesity and cardiovascular disease risk. Soft gym activities, for elderly people in groups, have disappeared from the daily habits, and forced closure in their homes has discouraged mobility. The project aims to encourage the use of bicycles as a tool for outdoor sports, and for physical well-being. Training will concern topic such: right approach to cycling, injuries prevention, and motivational suggestions. In the second phase, the participants will be progressively involved with one-to-one and group exits, till be involved in short journeys for small groups. The goal is to make the participants autonomous and protagonists. At least, the project calls for the active participation of citizens, in creating empathy with the weak target groups through EDULARP laboratories, for the creation "safe space" suitable for sports on the road. G.E.A.R. involves the over 60 as a fragile group, less and less involved in the decision-making aspects of social life, and with less adaptive skills for the practice of uncoordinated and organized sports. Young people are involved with the aim of strengthening their sense of solidarity, making them participants and protagonists of non-formal actions and education. In the short and medium term, the benefits of the project activities on the participants will be psycho-physical. In the long term benefits will be wider. The fallout will impact direct beneficiaries, who will have acquired autonomy during travels, greater occasions of socialization, and seniors will become a pole of action, involvement and long- lasting witness for the others over 60's of territory. G.E.A.R. will produce as outputs, a raccomandation for local administration based on Tactical urbanistic. The main European added value of the G.E.A.R. project is its replicability.
