Summary

The objective of this project is to: • Promote the friendships of children in wheelchairs and able-bodied children through sport, in particular through the sport of wheelchair basketball; The Horizontal objective is: • Inclusion and diversity by promoting equal opportunities, access, inclusion and fairness. This project aims to encourage children with disabilities to play wheelchair basketball and enhance the integration of both diversely abled and able-bodied children in the game. Often able-bodied children see disabled children as another category and feel that they cannot relate to them and cannot play their sport. On the other-hand children with disabilities do not get the chance to play sports with their able-bodied friends and companions due to their wheelchairs. Through this project we aim to create a real integration of both disabled and able-bodied children by enhancing friendships. This project aims to achieve this by creating possibilities where once they did not exist. Concretely, the project aims to make wheelchairs available to able-bodied children so that they too can play wheelchair basketball with disabled children. The project aims to put everyone on the same level, so that able-bodied children will not “feel sorry” for their friends and disabled children will be able to finally play sports with their friends and also teach them how to play wheelchair basketball. The athletes will become part of the same team and work together towards a common objective, two tournaments.
