Summary

The main objectives of GAMES is to increase the awareness and to foster the adoption of climate change practices by sport key actors in order to improve sustainability during sports events. Grounding on the shortcomings that characterise the current governance of these sport events, in order to prevent and reduce environmental impacts during sports events and to fight climate change, the project aims to focus the project activities on the whole sport event life cycle focusing on Athletics, Floorball and Biathlon. GAMES will analyse the current climate change governance and management models adopted in the partner sport organizations. GAMES will support sports organisations in developing a path for defining a Roadmap for the decarbonization of their activities, through the development of a strategic set of objectives, programs and a coherent operational framework of actions aimed at mitigating, neutralising or offsetting its own greenhouse gas emission. Moreover, a carboon footprint analysis will be realised in order to support sport organisations in identifying the most suitable solutions to reduce their climate impacts. The goal of reducing GHG emissions will be also pursued through strategies and interventions at organizations level, as well as national and international public policies. To pursue this goal, sport organizations in particular can define effective mitigation and reduction strategies in line with their role as a player in the society. An important step for improving environmental governance in any organization is the spread of an environmental culture. GAMES will develop some face-to-face and on-line training modules aimed at improving environmental knowledge and awareness among sport organizations employees and supporters. Lastly, GAMES will valorise the popularity of sports organizations to carry out environmental awareness raising actions toward supporters improving sports organizations’ environmental communication activities.
