Summary

RegeTrainXC project addresses the problem of long-term physical overstrain, the insufficient regeneration and the unbalanced approach to young XC skiers which can lead to injuries, fatigue fractures, RED-S syndrome, eating disorder and other health problems. This affects significantly the life of the young athletes; they usually end the sport career, fight with the damaged health and above all lose the positive attitude towards sport. Such a situation is influencing the whole society as it is confronted with the cost of medical care and other consequences that arise in an athlete's daily life; described phenomenon becomes a real societal challenge. RegeTrainXC project intends to tackle the issue by most powerful tool, by education. The overall goal is to inform, educate and empower young XC skiers and their coaches that the regeneration and recovery is as much a part of the training process as the training itself. The goal of RegeTrainXC project will be reached by the realization of the project’s activities which are as follows : Educational & Skills Development Workshops for young XC skiers Training of the trainers, Educative module for coaches REGEwebsite as a knowledge base gathering existing information and recommendations on the regeneration of young athletes Medical monitoring and regular check-ups of young athletes Online interactive forum within REGEwebsite in order to exchange experience and share best practice among project’s participants Online consultancy services provided by the physiotherapist and the medical doctor, both participating in the project The Handbook for young athletes and coaches as well as the REGEwebsite will materialize the knowledge and experience acquired throughout the project implementation, will be freely accessible and disseminated to all relevant entities across the sport community. The results of the project will facilitate further development of the concept of complete care&training for young athletes.
