โ–ถSummary

The project starts from the analysis of the deep and sometimes implicit and underestimated connection between sport and environment. This link could be seen through a double perspective: a) the impact that sport events (both trainings and competitions) have on the environment; b) the role that sport actors can play to raise awareness and contribute to more sustainable behaviours. Even if the impact of sport on the environment at the professional level and major/mega-sport event level is higher and more evident, sport competitions, training, and other associated events at the grassroots level of sport also generate environmental impact that, in the majority of cases, is underestimated. Underestimating the effects grassroots sport participation on the environment not only produces negative impacts in term of the rise of costs for sport clubs that do not follow sustainable principles in the short-term but also to the entire environment and its inhabitants in the medium and long-term. against this background, objectives are: 1) train and equip 26 coaches, teachers, volunteers, managers, involved in the sport field at the grassroots level to develop and maintain an environmentally sustainable approach when organizing their sport clubโ€™s daily activities; 2) encourage the participation of newcomers to sport as volunteers by involving them into greening activities and sharing practices to adopt environmentally sustainable behaviours; 3) Develop an environmental sustainable policy containing principles and commitments identified through the project and which can be adopted by the clubs, starting from the ones involved; 4) raise awareness on the impact of sport and its associated social events/activities/competitions on on the environment and practical tips on how to prevent and mitigate them.
