Summary

International Networking for Inclusive Sportevents - INIS The project INIS is based on Article 30 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, comprising “the aim to enable persons with disabilities to participate on an equal basis with others in recreational, leisure and sporting activities”. We pursue this target by means of a project consortium whose partners are working in different sectors of social inclusion in and through sports. Two very inclusive and exemplary sports clubs are involved, namely • “TSG Hatten-Sandkrug” from Germany • “Sportbündel” from Austria. • Third-party expertise is coming from the lead partner Lebenshilfen Soziale Dienste Gmbh, a well-established organisation for people with disabilities, and its project “Move on to Inclusion (MOI) – Veranstaltungen”.. Our aim: • learning from the extensive experience of project organisations in Germany and Austria, • making use of synergy effects for further, optimized activities of partner organisations and especially • letting all this knowledge culminate in a concluding conference where not only the results are presented to the public, but participants can also take part in lectures and workshops. Our long-term goal is a website showing best practice examples of social inclusion for people with disabilities by means of sports and apart from that also containing a checklist for inclusive sports events – both very practice-oriented, making people follow suit, and in easy-to-read language. A prerequisite for the entire project is the active involvement of people with (mainly intellectual) disabilities, according to the maxim “nothing about us without us”! With this project, we follow the purpose to make sports more accessible for people with disabilities – whether it be in sports associations or by running inclusive sports events!
