โ–ถSummary

General project objective - to organise innovative European non-for-profit local events aimed at encouraging the participation in sport and physical activity as a tool for health, while at the same time raising awareness on the important contribution the sport movement can make towards addressing major environmental challenges affecting climate change. The project will exploit the ancient concept of the FOUR elements that constitute everything by promoting sports connected to them. Each project partner will organise a sport event centred around one element - water, air, earth - by hosting competitions in physical activities which use it i.e. play with it. The fourth one โ€“ FIRE - won`t be explored, thus emphasizing on the message that fire means warmth, symbolizing the global warming, thus โ€“ it is not for playing with. Three sustainable sports events demonstrating how sports organisations can pave the way towards bringing down the carbon footprint of international competitions at grassroots level with 1260 young people with fewer opportunities will be carried out. Lisbon, PT will host competitions in swimming, water polo and adapted swimming. In Sofia, BG taekwondo, break dance and street workout will be promoted, while Corlu, TR will host competitions in basketball, volleyball, and parkour. It is expected that 1260 young people with fewer opportunities, including with disabilities, will take part in the project activities. In addition, trainings for the public and carefully selected participants will aim at equipping young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to act in favour of environmental protection by stimulating them for responsible behaviour in and through practicing in physical activities. Workshops targeting the local sport community will raise the awareness about the impact of climate change on sports and the important contribution that sport can make towards achieving EU`s objectives in the field of environmental sustainability.
