STREETBALL4INCLUSION - Streetball (3 on 3 basketball) for children at risk of social exclusion
▶Summary
STREETBALL4INCLUSION aims to give children at risk of socioeconomic exclusion in Italy and Spain the possibility to play 3-on-3 basketball in safe conditions and under the guidance of experienced coaches. Specifically, we may identify two clear target groups: the first one includes Roma children aged 13-17 at serious risk of social exclusion, living in the neighbourhoods of Cabañal and Malvarrosa, two areas in the province of Valencia (Spain), all characterised by a population with around 15% of immigrants and huge differences in economic income and social participation; the second group includes children aged 13-17 at risk of social exclusion, living in a vast rural area surrounding the municipality of Savigliano (Italy). The target population faces economic barriers (low-income families) or difficult family situations or includes families of immigrants who face cultural and social barriers. The project main objetive is inclusion and diversity through basketball. The second one pursues encouraging the participation in sport and physical activity, promoting education in and through sport as well as sport values. The third objective consists in developing digital skills through the utilisation of free basketball apps to be run on tablets. The fourth one consists in developing environmental awareness through the materials used to build the playcourts and specific activities to be carried out before and after the basketball practices. The fifth objective consists in improving spoken English skills among the participants by using the basketball vocabulary typically used in this sport. The project development included two Streetball courses will be held at "Amik del basket" association in Spain and at "Gators Basketball Club" in Italy. Each course will last two years and at the end of each year there will be a mobility of players: the first one in Spain and the second one in Italy. Specific preparatory basketball courses will be held at Santiago Apóstol School in Spain.
