Summary

SupPORT EU focuses on the deficit of democratic participation among young Europeans as a serious social problem, where sports can become a game-changer. Objectives -Foster games and sports as an accessible and appealing education tool for democratic culture; -Reduce the deficit of youth democratic participation in the EU. Activities -Youth workers seminar: knowledge-building/best practices sharing within skills development through sports; -Youth exchange: practice of sports activities, developing appliable and transferrable to democratic culture and participation competences; -Youth virtual mobility: democratic structures and processes at the EU level learning; -Youth exchange: role-play/simulation of European political bodies, under the theme “Promoting values of non-discrimination on any ground, anti-racism, openness and tolerance to others in sport”; -Local sessions with youth: reflection on the transference of competences acquired through sports to democratic culture and participation. Target group -24 youngsters, between 16 – 30 years old (at least 50% with fewer opportunities, mainly facing socioeconomic obstacles). Expected results -Recognition of games and sports as an added value in their lives; -Increased knowledge about the European Union and its democratic project; -Specific development of democratic culture and participation competences; -Broad development of personal and social skills, in foreign and digital languages; -Increased sensitivity and knowledge about inclusion and diversity, and EU values. Main outputs -SupPORT EU booklet (summary of the project, including context, objectives, activities and results, to be used in dissemination); -Recommendations to EU governance bodies (document with the recommendations issued during the participant’s debate/role-play).
