SPOKI - Sports orientation for kids
▶Summary
The goal of this project is to implement the proven sports orientation method “SportKompas” in primary schools in European cities. SportKompas is an innovative and science-based method for children between 8 and 10 years old to find out which sports best fit to them. SportKompas was developed at Ghent University in 2011 in Belgium. Since 2019 SportaMundi supports the roll out of SportKompas in all primary schools in Flanders, as a priority from the Flemish Government. When children start a sport that best fit to them, they feel success, enjoy, and are motivated to continue. This contributes to their self-esteem, integration, and healthy lifestyle. By focusing on schools, we include “every” child with respect of diversity, culture, and socioeconomic context. Physical teachers and coaches can use the SportKompas test results to improve the develop of movement skills of children. Local government receives insights on children’s sports preferences, movement health parameters and possible barriers to participate in sports. Universities get a large quantity of anonymous data for research. With this cooperation partnership we want to leverage the know-how of SportKompas, adapt it to local needs and prepare to make it available for every school and city in Europe. The geographical spread, cultural differences and cross-country knowledge transfer during the project will lead to a sustainable digital solution for dissemination in other EU countries. This project will result in an improved and sustainable capacity to collaborate on an international scale, with local implementation and centralized support. With this project we want to make a societal impact on sports participation, health prevention, wellbeing, and integration on a multi-national level, more specific: Activate more children to sports based on their motivation and skills • Reduce the dropout in sports clubs • Improve children movement skills • Facilitate social integration
