WdyT - What do you Think? Combating violence by promoting integrity and values in sport.
▶Summary
What do you Think? (WdyT?) aims to address a widespread social problem, that is, violence in sports, particularly in grassroots sports. Data shows the importance and urgency of addressing this issue by designing and implementing interventions that support the sports domain in achieving all its social potential and eliminating the risk factors associated with violence and abuse in sports. As it is widely known, sports, especially grassroots, have a prominent role in promoting social inclusion and community development. Our main objective is to contribute to combat violence in sports, addressing the grassroots sports context and needs. Through transnational cooperation, we will develop an intervention directly aimed at referees, coaches and athletes, also involving relevant stakeholders such as associative and federative sports leaders. We will promote the identification of needs and practices, foster dialogue, research and exchange of good practices to achieve relevant responses to be implemented in the partners’ contexts and replicated and adapted to other contexts across Europe. Our specific objectives are: -To involve sports leaders, referees, coaches and athletes in the identification and sharing of problems and good practices related to violence in grassroots sports; -To develop a Good Practices Manual with social responses to address violence in grassroots sports and widely disseminate it; -To raise awareness of sports leaders, referees, coaches, athletes and other stakeholders for the sports values of ethics, fairness, integrity, inclusion and respect; -To empower sports leaders, coaches, referees and athletes in terms of their personal, social and emotional competences and on good practices to address violence to be implemented in grassroots sports; To strengthen the relationships and promote communication, support and empathy between all sports stakeholders (sports leaders, coaches, referees and athletes).
