Green Kayak Clubs

Organizations across sectors increasingly perceive value in becoming environmentally sustainable organizations. This often comes in the broader context of environmental management. Unfortunately, professional sport clubs lag behind organizations in other sectors when it comes to environmental and sustainable management and awareness. With Green Kayak Clubs Project we want to raise awareness of the deep connection between the environment and water sports, creating long-lasting green attitudes in youth and young professionals members of already green sports such as kayak and canoeing. Starting from the outcomes of Green Kayak we decided to continue with a new methodology and approach while creating the project “Green Kayak Clubs”, the project aims to test the potential of the kayak sport sector as a water sport & nature outdoor activity, to be a channel for the societal behavioural change needed for decreasing the environmental footprint of the kayak sport clubs and contributing fully toward to the EU work Plan for sport 2021 -2024 by focusing on good governance so that sport leaders have the knowledge and skills to place environmental sustainability at the heart of their clubs strategies. The connection between sport and the environment will also serve as an attraction for volunteers, passionate about this topic and who are not sports field members or who have left sports fields for several reasons. Countries that participate in the projects are Croatia, Greece, Serbia and North Macedonia. Activities are: 1.Kick-off meeting online (8 people) 2.Assessment / 3 local events in Serbia, Croatia and North Macedonia (50 responders/3 events) 3.Two days of Circular Economy Practice in Kayak Clubs-NMK (19 participants) 4.Developing internal clubs’ manuals/policies + local actions in each country with their members (6 documents and 100participants in total) 5.Organizing Eco Regatta Event in Serbia. (400 participants in total)
