STANDOUT - The development of standards that support greater participation in outdoor sports in cities and urban areas

Standards for Outdoor Sports in Cities and Urban Areas (STANDOUT) project aims to develop resources and standards to help increase participation in sustainable and responsible physical activity for all in natural settings and green / blue spaces in urban areas. The project will highlight the value of outdoor sports in supporting everyone to be able to participate in sport and physical activity regardless of socio-economic status, age, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation. It has been developed in line with the European Network of Outdoor Sports' charter for outdoor sports and the Policy Position Paper on the European Green Deal to provide sustainable and low carbon opportunities for more people to lead active healthy lifestyles. 1. It will develop systems to support the integration of green and blue infrastructure development and management that supports outdoor activities but also provides healthier and more beautiful urban areas in line with the European Bauhaus principles. 2. It will support the development of policies that encourage and support more people to be active close to home in natural settings, thereby reducing carbon impact of mobility. 3. It will support the development of clubs and activity providers to empower more people to adopt and sustain participation in outdoor sports 4. It will support mechanisms to communicate on accessibility of outdoor sports in urban areas and the provision of low/no cost solutions for being active. 5. Standards and resources will be developed through research, co-design with local multi-sector stakeholders and knowledge sharing. There will be over 120 individuals involved in the co-design of the standards through effective stakeholder engagement. Stakeholder mapping will be provided for the pilot sites and exchange venues that can be transferable for other areas. 6. A mechanism for accreditation of municipalities will be created for long term sustainability with a minimum of 2 pilot cities involved.
