โ–ถSummary

Sports have great benefits for physical and psychological health. Sports practice can be a great space for children and youngsters to develop their personality and social skills, make friends, build character, and learn. Participation in sports has been recognised as having an empowering capacity, aiding the creation of a positive identity, providing a space for social interaction and building better social skills, improving self-image and body image, motivation and capacity for goal-oriented work (European Commission, 2018). This is especially true for minorities, disadvantaged groups and people at risk of social exclusion. CoachingPlus (Coaching+) aims to promote new methodologies of coaching which will make sports activities and the sport environment more inclusive for youth from all backgrounds, and it will improve the quality of coaching, taking a positive methodology which can prevent dropouts and lower barriers to accessing sports. In this manner, it will promote HEPA by making sports more enjoyable and a place for the personal development of youths, where they can obtain life lessons and skills and where they can feel valued and respected. This project will provide youth sport coaches with an innovative coaching methodology focused on pedagogy, non-discrimination, inclusion, role-modelling and mentoring which can make sports a more enjoyable experience for all athletes, prevent dropouts due to situations of abuse, preserve and foster athlete well-being and lower barriers faced by children at risk of social exclusion. Furthermore, it will focus on building opportunities for coaches from disadvantaged backgrounds, fostering their potential to become stronger mentors for children with similar experiences and combating the discrimination they face in both the coaching profession and coaching education. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
