▶Summary
As in all areas of social life, women's participation in sports management and decision-making processes is one of the most important elements of democracy. In the International Lobur Organization (ILO), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and European Commission reports, ensuring gender equality is considered important not only in terms of rights, but also in terms of economic growth, social welfare, sustainable development and the fight against poverty, and at this point, the importance of policies to be followed on the basis of nation-states and relevant institutions is pointed out. In the study titled “Women, gender equality and sport” by the United Nations; women's participation in leadership and decision-making processes is limited in sport and sport-related organizations, and women's decision-making at all levels, including coaching, management, commercial sporting activities and the media, as well as at local, national, regional and international levels, including the International Olympic Committee.
