ā–¶Summary

Sports played in the streets have significant benefits and provide children and youth with a valuable sense of freedom and spontaneous play. It is a key part of growing up and teaches children to organise themselves, use their creativity, work in teams and increase the ability to socialise and make friends. It can also help the integration of migrant and refugee children into the local community. On the other hand, organised sports clubs and organisations performing outreach and social work in the inner-cities, do not use the potential that street sports have to offer. The INSTREET project aims to use the knowledge and experience of organised sports and organisations working with vulnerable youth, to incorporate the positive aspects of street sports as a tool to reach the children and youth in the places where they live and play, with the ultimate goal to ensure that these young people are not marginalised in the local society. The objectives of the project are to • Increase the inclusion of migrant and refugee children and youth in the society by adapting the methodology developed by Faros on delivering a practical sports and life-skills methodology for performing outreach and street sports activities. • Increase capacities of local sports organisations and organisations doing outreach work through training on performing outreach works with street sport as a tool • Promote integration and raise awareness among children and youth through the execution of street sports events in Greece and Italy. Faros, Panellinios and Dedalus Cooperativa will create a methodology and training material on outreach work. Two trainings will take place in Italy and Greece followed by four street sports events in each country. The outcome of this project is that 25 sport instructors and outreach workers from the partnership organisations as well as from other stakeholders are trained and the methodology is embedded in the respective organisations. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
