EQUI-Champions: Promoting inclusion, gender equity
▶Summary
EQUI-Champions aims to raise awareness around gender-based violence (and other forms of violence) whilst promoting gender-equality, by taking an innovative gender-synchronised approach. This will allow to engage fe/male PE sports coaches and PE teachers to discuss and reflect about gender inequities and ways gender inequalities may disadvantage both women/girls in their socialisation process within the sports environment. EQUI-C will also incorporate specific needs boys have in terms of their health and development because of the way they are socialised. This means, for example, helping coaches/PE teachers engage boys in discussions about “winning mentality” that comes from sports and helping them understand why they may feel pressured to behave in certain ways (e.g. endure injuries). The proposed methodology, combines previously tested and successful methodologies of EQUI-X, Life Champions and Futbol Más, and will allow to train PE teachers/students and coaches to make their sports teaching&coaching approaches more gender equitable, acknowledge and respond to gender prejudice and stereotyping, and themselves raise awareness of norms of gender equality amongst children and young people they work with, the programme invests in PE teachers (pre-service and in-service) and coaches as agents for preventing gender-based violence. This will take place across 3 EU countries (PT-CR-ESP) with online training developed for scale up. EQUI-Champions will advocate for increased focus on masculinities & involvement of boys and young men in GE and GBV prevention in sports, by promoting the mainstreaming of gender-synchronised and gender-based violence prevention methodologies in national coach and physical education training programmes. Outputs - 3 national EQUI-C courses; 1 Training of Trainers workshop; 1 EU online EQUI-C course; 3 national campaigns; 1 set of Policy recommendations to policy-makers at the European Level in GBV prevention in the specific area of sports. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
