The project's vision is to equip coaches and trainers with comprehensive knowledge and tools for RED-S management so that they can foster safer, healthier athletic environments for athletes aged 15-30 across various sports disciplines RED-S poses a serious threat to athletes, particularly younger ones. It occurs when an athlete's energy intake doesn't support their training demands, leading to a range of health problems from decreased performance and frequent injuries to long-term consequences like weakened bones and, for women, menstrual dysfunction.Coaches and trainers often lack the knowledge to recognize RED-S, address it with athletes, and know when to seek medical help, leaving athletes vulnerable Goals -Empower Coaches & Trainers:Create a comprehensive, evidence-based training module and toolkit equipping coaches with RED-S identification, prevention, and management skills -Maximize Reach:Toolkit is digitally accessible and adaptable for coaches across various sports and European countries. -Foster Health-Focused Culture:Promote a shift within sports teams towards prioritizing athlete health and sustainable training practices. Objectives -Needs Assessment:Research to pinpoint specific RED-S knowledge gaps among European coaches, trainers, and athletes -Evidence-Based Solutions:Develop the toolkit and training using the latest scientific research for maximum effectiveness -Engaging Workshops:Deliver in-person and online workshops where coaches learn to implement the toolkit and apply RED-S knowledge Results -Conduct Comprehensive Research about REDS (coaches, athletes) -Supplementary trainer's guide to facilitate the effective use of the OER about REDS -Open Educational resurce โWellPlay This project addresses a critical need in European sports.
