ESSD2025 - European School Sport Day - Power of

The European School Sport Day (ESSD) is a continent-wide movement aimed at promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles among children and young people. It is basically a huge umbrella event that focuses on increasing participation in sport and PA programs. Its primary goal is to encourage as many schools and organizations as possible to participate in programs that promote physical activity and sports. In addition, ESSD aims to break down cultural barriers and contribute to social inclusion by identifying different focus topics each year. The program has been organized annually since 2015, continuously increasing the number of participating countries and students, reaching almost 2,6 million in 41 countries in 2023. We always celebrate ESSD during the European Week of Sport on the last Friday of September. The locally organized ESSD school sports events are among the most significant events of the EWoS. By extending its primary objectives, ESSD2025, with its "Power of cooperation: Strengthening links between sport clubs and schools in the field of sport, physical activity and health" theme, we will also promote the advantages of cooperation between schools and sports clubs, share good examples, show how schools can benefit from these connections. We will show schools good examples of how physical activity can not only be part of physical education lessons but also how integrating it into and between lessons and after-school activities can improve learning outcomes and children's motivation. By ESSD event we would like to familiarise teachers with best practices in all participating countries. Our aim is to encourage teachers, head teachers, school operators to reach out to sport clubs to find room for collaboration. Six partnering organizations, the ESSD national coordinators' network, and our thousands of volunteers will implement the project.
