Bet on Sport - Combating sports-gambling addiction

Bet on Sport project, identifying the ever-increasing problem of (sports) gambling addiction and the positive effects of sport in combating it, aims to promote the participation of gambling addicts in sports/physical activities as a tool for enhancing their mental and physical health in Romania, Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Finland, Italy and Turkey. To achieve this, Bet on Sport aims to build the skills of at least 200 addiction/health & sport professionals on jointly designing & implementing sport programmes as adjunct therapy for gambling addiction, to facilitate the cooperation of at least 100 addiction/health & sport professionals in addressing gambling addiction in a holistic way, to the raise awareness of at least 400 addiction & sport professionals, stakeholders and authorities on the importance of sport as adjunct therapy, and to enhance the access of at least 100 gambling addicts to innovative physical activity programmes. To fulfill the aforementioned objectives, Bet on Sport, will first analyze the support needs of sports gambling addicts and the most effective types of sport activities that can aid their recovery process, as well as the knowledge needs of health & sports professionals for their effective cooperation in gambling addiction recovery for the creation of an integrated Cooperation Protocol. An online training course for addiction/ health & sport professionals will be developed and implemented, and then the trained professionals will pilot and evaluate the Protocol in the 7 project countries. Furthermore, awareness raising and dissemination activities incl. printed and digital material, website and social media actions, and events, will aim to reach and raise the knowledge and awareness of addiction & sport professionals, stakeholders and authorities on the importance of sport as adjunct therapy, and of the results and benefits of the project (over 10.000 people). that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
