Safeling - Safe Alternatives to Gambling
โถSummary
Safeling is a youth-centered initiative that uses the transformative power of sports and physical activities to address the growing issue of youth gambling. Gambling, a leisure-time entertainment with centuries-old roots, has transformed into a global industry, especially flourishing in Europe, which leads to over 128,000 new gambling properties being opened annually. This industry's growth, significantly powered by the rise of online and mobile platforms, has made gambling more accessible and appealing, particularly to younger demographics. The transition to digital has not only lowered access barriers but has also glamorised gambling, intensifying its integration into modern culture. A striking revelation by Statista in 2023 spotlighted Europe's pivotal role in this expansion, with online gambling expected to claim a 20.4% market share by 2026. Recognizing the challenges, such as the increased exposure to gambling online and the general lack of education about gambling risks, our project is designed to empower youth to make well-informed decisions regarding gambling. We seek to understand young people's perspectives on gambling, develop an engaging intervention programme intertwining sports with educational content on gambling prevention, and empower professionals to integrate these strategies effectively. Additionally, we aim to increase awareness of gambling risks while promoting sports as a possible, healthier alternative. Leveraging digital platforms, we strive to broaden our reach and engagement, fostering a support system that supports healthy lifestyle choices against gambling temptations. Through sports, physical activity, and digital innovation, our project is committed to counteracting the rising tide of gambling among youth, crafting a resilient society informed and guarded against the lure of gambling. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
