Summary

Restoring Respect in Sports (RRiS) aims to contribute to the prevention and eradication of discrimination by using the values and practices of restorative justice to help combat racism, misogyny, xenophobia, intolerance and other forms of discrimination in the field of sports across Europe. The project puts together a strategic, cross-sector partnership consisting of 4 NGOs from Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Türkiye. Addressing the sectoral priority of “Promoting equality and European values in and through sport”, RRiS will use the values and practices of restorative justice to: - provide a user-led, up-to-date evidence base of current manifestations of discrimination, such as racism, misogyny, and xenophobia, and any other forms of intolerance against diversity and gender equality in sports across Europe; - create a comprehensive educational programme (face-to-face and online) on preventing and dealing with such incidents, using restorative justice (addressed to sports actors) and the EU Victims' Directive; - promote cooperation among the consortium partners and relevant stakeholders, including sports clubs, associations, anti-racist/anti-discrimination NGOs, human rights and feminist institutions, government agencies and state authorities, grassroots organisations, fans, sport journalists, law enforcement/judicial authorities, in order to work together towards the elimination of any form of discrimination, intolerance and gender inequality within the sports domain. RRiS recognises the pervasive impact of sexism on both female fans and players, and will strive to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for all genders, while ensuring protection of human rights as a whole. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
