Summary

This project proposes a comprehensive approach to design future biorefinery and biobased chemical plants by integrating green solvent, process, and control design. Green solvents, such as Ionic Liquids (ILs), Deep Eutectic Solvents (DESs), and biobased solvents, offer a sustainable alternative to conventional toxic solvents. Despite their potential, their application in chemical process plant design remains underexplored. This project aims to develop a holistic framework that addresses the unique properties of green solvents, focusing on mathematical modeling, solvent regeneration design, dynamic process analysis, control system design, and experimental validation. By advancing green chemistry practices, the project aspires to pave the way for sustainable, commercial-scale biorefinery plants, aligning with the goals of a circular economy and contributing to a green transformation of the chemical industry. The project will model solvent properties, optimize process efficiency, and ensure safe and sustainable chemical processes, ultimately setting a new standard for the biobased industry.
