▶Summary
PHYNEST (“PHYsics for a greener world: fostering the NExt generation of talented young researchers in novel materials, innovative STrategies and energy solutions"") is a unique doctoral programme for talented 25 PhD candidates, led by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). PHYNEST aims to train tomorrow’s leaders in the field of advanced materials, innovative strategies, and key solutions to help migrate towards a new energy paradigm and to enhance environmental sustainability, taking physical sciences as the backbone. Together with UAB, 5 internationally-renowned research centres as Implementing Partners will embark on this exciting adventure after selecting and recruiting doctoral candidates from all over the world in an open, transparent and merit-based process. Special attention will be paid to applications from women, which have been chronically underrepresented in STEM disciplines, and other minority groups. Cutting edge research topics will be offered to the PhD candidates (+50 options) in which experimental and theoretical research, as well as the historical and social dimension of energy and climate, will be tackled in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary and innovative manner. The hosting institutions count with world-class research infrastructures and a pool of accomplished supervisors in their respective fields. +20 Associated Partners will participate in PHYNEST to host the fellows for secondments and/or participate in the network-wide events of the network to offer high-quality scientific and transferable skills training in different domains, ranging from diversity equity and inclusion, time and project management, to effective communication to diverse audiences.
