Knowledge and Learning Integration Dynamic Open (KaLeIDO) Systems: a novel knowledge synthesis framework for globally informed and adaptive healthcare
▶Summary
Network meta-analysis is an extension of pairwise meta-analysis and is considered the highest possible level of clinical evidence. However, the increasing complexity and the evolving nature of recent public health questions impose new challenges that cannot be addressed by existing evidence synthesis approaches, such as complexity of new interventions, environmental and socio-political changes, or new technologies and misinformation. Thus, there is an urgent need for developing a new knowledge synthesis framework that would enable considering jointly the totality of evidence on an entire domain and would account for all important factors affecting individualized recommendations and global health policies. The aim of the proposed research program is to conceptualize, develop, and establish the “Knowledge and Learning Integration Dynamic Open (KaLeIDO) System” framework to provide a paradigm shift in comparative effectiveness research. The KaLeIDO-CARE program will develop new statistical methods for a) combining information across multiple subpopulations, b) dismantling the complexity of different healthcare strategies, and c) tailoring clinical recommendations to individuals’ characteristics and preferences. The new framework will be publicly accessible to be applied across all health domains while accounting for rapidly changing variables. By implementing artificial intelligence tools, I will facilitate communication of the findings, and will promote transparency, open science, and research collaboration. The new framework will be evaluated and established through a proof-of-concept application that will produce comprehensive recommendations for the management of hypertension for every individual. My international recognition as a leader in evidence synthesis with a track-record of pioneering innovative methodologies and proven ability to build multidisciplinary collaborations, uniquely positions me to drive this transformative initiative for public health.
