โ–ถSummary

The Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025 (Games) will be the largest sporting and social inclusion event of the year, taking place from March 8th to 14th, 2025. As the world's largest inclusive multisport organization, Special Olympics (SO) enhances the sporting skills and fitness of athletes with intellectual disabilities (ID). As a movement for social change, SO leverages the power of sport to foster personal and social development, aligning with European Union (EU) policies in the field of sport. SO exemplifies the European Sports Model in all its aspects, and the Games will showcase this Model to the world. The Games and their legacy will promote volunteerism, coach mobility, social inclusion, gender equality, and the fight against discrimination, including against refugees. The Games will also focus on volunteering, safeguarding people with ID, environmental responsibility, digital technology in inclusive sport, healthier lifestyles, youth empowerment, and grassroots community engagement. 1,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities (ID) and their Unified partners from 105 countries have been selected from a pool of nearly 4.2 million athletes and Unified Partners from over 190 countries. Among them, 715 athletes and Unified partners will represent EU Member States and Erasmus+ countries. These athletes will be supported by coaches and other personnel from their delegations. In Turin, a team of 2,000 volunteers will assist the participating delegations. The Games will feature various non-sport events, such as the Global Forum for Inclusion and the Global Youth Summit, aimed at amplifying the voices of people with ID. Additionally, post-Games legacy activities will include sports competitions, coach mobility initiatives, and non-sport legacy events, promoting the inclusion of people with ID in sport and society. These events will carry on the spirit of the Turin games by promoting social inclusion through sports. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
