Summary

Project BeNATURE main objective is to increase and improve the physical and mental development of children with ADHD through the development of nature based sport program. The unique aspect of this project is that the developes a Nature Based Balance Sport Program. The program will be based on the “Attention Restoration Theory” which was coined by psychology professors Rachel and Stephen Kaplan in 1989 and showed that exposure to nature and use of nature-based curriculum and outdoor learning can improve mental fatigue and concentration. The developed program will be combined with balance exercises. Dr. Jeremy Schmahmann, Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, was one of the first to suggest that issues in attention could be linked to the cerebellum. Recent studies show that strengthening the functionality of the cerebellum leads to improvements in attention, memory, and emotional regulation. Natural treatments combined with balance training provide a holistic and effective approach to supporting children with ADHD. This combination addresses both the mental and physical challenges associated with the condition, fostering improved focus, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. Natural interventions, such as nutritional support, mindfulness practices, and outdoor play and sports, enhance brain health, reduce hyperactivity, and promote calmness without relying on medication. Balance training further complements these benefits by engaging the brain and body, improving coordination, motor skills, and self-regulation. Together, these approaches create a powerful synergy, helping children develop stronger neural connections, process sensory input more effectively, and navigate daily tasks with greater confidence and composure. This integrated strategy not only supports cognitive and physical development but also nurtures emotional stability, enabling children with ADHD to thrive in a sustainable and balanced way. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
