Summary

The K.I.D.S. project - Karate for Inclusion, Development, and Support - aims to promote social inclusion, peer support, and teamwork through the structured practice of karate, creating an educational partnership between schools and sports clubs. The project targets children with learning difficulties and special educational needs, offering them the opportunity to engage in adapted physical activities that enhance motor, cognitive and social development, creating a sustainable and inclusive training model that can be replicated across Europe. The 24-month initiative is based on a collaborative pedagogical approach, in which karate teachers and coaches work together to support children in both academic and sporting settings. This dual intervention model ensures that the development of soft skills in the classroom is complemented by physical and emotional growth on the tatami. Training sessions are adapted to individual learning rhythms, creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. A key aspect is the strengthening of peer support and teamwork dynamics. Through structured group exercises, children are encouraged to develop mutual support strategies, promoting a culture of inclusion and empathy. The project also introduces alternative competition formats in which children's progress is evaluated on the basis of personal improvements rather than traditional ranking systems. The project consortium brings together a Polish sports research association, a French karate club, and a Bulgarian multi-sports association specializing in disability - promoting an interdisciplinary approach that combines academic research, sports, and educational best practice. This collaboration will produce: • a handbook for educators and coaches with training modules on inclusive sports pedagogy • evidence-based guidelines for integrating adapted physical education into school curricula.
