โ–ถSummary

AWARDS project aims to create a supportive learning environment for coaches and mentors, enabling both experienced and inexperienced youth athletes to reach their full potential within a structured framework that fosters enjoyment and individual growth under positive supervision. Youth psychosocial development is a continuous process that often requires guidance from adults and older peers who challenge and encourage young people towards excellence. Effective mentors hold high expectations for youth and remain consistently involved over time (Benard, 1997). These relationships cannot be forced; they require regular interaction during structured, goal-oriented activities that young athletes find intrinsically rewarding (Benard, 1997). Positive outcomes are not solely the result of structured programs but emerge from the quality of relationships, behaviors, and expectations set by mentors who consistently engage with young athletes (Benard, 1997; Petitpas et al., 1999). Research indicates that when young athletes are given opportunities to teach or lead younger peers, they experience significant improvements in self-confidence and career self-efficacy (Danish, Nellen, & Owens, 1996). Thus, a crucial aspect of a strong support system for youth athletes is fostering a community environment that encourages giving back. Structured community service activities, especially those that involve leadership roles, help young athletes build confidence, take pride in their communities, and serve as positive role models. By taking on responsibility and leadership, they not only grow personally but also inspire others through their dedication, actions, and achievements. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
