Summary

DIALECT5 builds upon a well-established pan-European ecosystem, developed through six years of implementing the DIALECT methodology in disadvantaged communities in Greece, Italy, Hungary, and Serbia. Using gender and ethnically mixed football teams, the initiative has fostered inclusive communities by promoting tolerance, equality, and non-discrimination. DIALECT5 unlocks the potential of physical education professionals as key drivers of tolerance in schools, adapting and transferring the DIALECT3 good practice—piloted in Greek lower secondary schools—to primary schools in four partner countries. Through physical education, the project tackles stereotypes early, promoting inclusion among children (9-12 y.o.) with fewer opportunities, including migrants, refugees, Roma, girls, and boys. It aligns with Erasmus+ priorities on “Inclusion and Diversity” and “Promoting equality and EU values through sport”. DIALECT5 will train 100 primary school physical education professionals in the four intervention countries on the DIALECT methodology. Meanwhile, 1,010 children will enhance their values of equality and non-discrimination through mixed football teams in physical education classes. Student-led initiatives will further strengthen democratic participation, empowering students to make their voices heard. The project’s impact assessment results will contribute to policy recommendations, supported by the Greek Ministries of Social Cohesion and Family and of Migration and Asylum, as well as UEFA Foundation for Children and Common Goals (Associated Partners). These efforts aim to drive policy change toward integrating sports for inclusion within physical education curricula at the EU level. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
