โ–ถSummary

ICOACHGIRLS+ (ICG+) aims to consolidate, extend and develop the work that began as part of the previous ICOACHGIRLS (ICG) project (2022-2025). ICG aimed to develop new opportunities for primary school age girls (age 5-11) to be physically active across Europe, through the design and delivery of bespoke โ€˜play centresโ€™. Moreover, it aimed to encourage more women and girls to take up coaching, by recruiting, training and deploying women to lead and support the delivery of the play centres. Over 1000 girls and 300 coaches took part in ICG across 12 countries. ICG+ will build on the success of ICG in two main ways. First, we will develop and extend the reach of the programme to include adolescent girls, aged 12-16. While the foundations for physical activity are built in ages 5-11, the adolescent age group is crucial to ensure young people stay engaged in sport and physical activity. Adolescent dropout is a particular issue in sport, especially for girls, and so extending the project to focus on girls aged 12-16 will support more girls to start and STAY active. Innovatively, ICG+ will focus on understanding the needs of adolescents as part of Generation Z and Generation Alpha thus ensuring intergenerational fairness through the development of sport and physical activity provision that is modern and appropriate for the young people of today. Second, we will consolidate and build on the number of women coaches engaged through the ICG+ family. Through ICG+ we will run a new round of recruitment, and develop new educational resources aimed at coaching adolescent Gen Z and Gen Alpha girls. By extending and developing the programme, women who began coaching with ICG have a clear pathway to continue coaching, gain new experiences coaching older participants, and begin to act as mentors for the newly recruited coaches. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
