Larpers of the World
▶Summary
"Larpers of the World" was a project that aimed to gather, share and develop a common ground for Europe's larp (live action role play) community, and discuss how larp can be used as a force for driving positive change in civil society; developing young people through fostering civic participation and social inclusion. The project consisted of three workshops focused on empowerment and on sharing best practices; - Empowerment through Entrepreneurship - Empowerment through Entertainment - Empowerment through Education The learnings collected here become the basis for two pieces of Intellectual Output: 1. A handbook on how to use larp as a tool for developing civil society. 2. A database that set international (global) standards for how to document a larp script. Dissemination happened through both formal and informal channels; with the corona virus creating some unexpected obstacles in regard to the former, it luckily also meant that the informal dissemination happened at an increased pace. The learnings and findings were brought to a number of international conferences in both Europe and America, with more dissemination activities planned for 2021, as the societies reopen enough that physical conferences once again become a thing. Methodologies, best practices and concepts developed as part of the project are all freely available in digital format, and have already been spread throughout both the partner organisations involved and a number of other relevant players in the field, including universities, schools, NGOs, etc. All of this was done with the express purpose of taking one core idea, developing it and spreading it: The idea that larp can be used as a tool for societal change, and that larp organisers shouldn't just look to refining the activity itself, but also to looking past that and considering what they want the activity to accomplish. And that last part? That idea has now taken root in all the involved organisations, and we'll be seeing the effects of that ripple outwards for many years to come.
