Alati za učenje - alati za održivi razvoj/Tools for learning - tools for sustainable development

Background We applied for this project in order to support a never ending quest of youth workers and teachers for innovation in order to provide better quality work and inspire the change for sustainable development within their young learners. The project addressed the needs of participating CSO for training opportunities which would allow taking over the green expertise, i.e. the good practices and new tools/methods directly from partner CSOs and would enable developing further green skills of their youth workers. The project also addressed the needs of teachers – their need to develop expertise about methods that would enable competence-oriented teaching, focused on their students’ learning outcomes (vs. content-based teaching), their need to learn more about sustainable development, as well as their need for teaching tools about sustainable development which can be implemented outside of the classroom and in the field. Finally, by satisfying the needs of teachers and youth workers, and thus creating a good quality ‘supportive infrastructure’ able to prepare the young learners to become true factors of change for a sustainable Green Europe (EU Youth Strategy’s 10th Youth Goal), the project addressed the needs of the young people. Objectives By implementing the project we achieved the following objectives: Objective 1: To strengthen participating organizations' capacities for innovative sustainable development youth work based on non-formal learning tools. Objective 2: To provide innovative and competence-oriented sustainable development teaching tools and assessment methods for teachers. Objective 3: To empower young people to act as agents of change for sustainable development. Implementation Within the TLTSD project we first implemented A1. Trainings for the trainers for exchange of the good practice, green skills and innovative non-formal learning tools (LTTA). Upon learning about partners’ green expertise and gaining insight into new non-formal learning tools, we were able to realise, within the Project management and implementation, the following activities: A2.1. one handbook for teachers and youth workers, A2.2. four presentations of the handbook in 3 countries and A3. three youth workshops for testing new non-formal learning tools in local settings, all followed by A4. Communication activities. We also implemented two 1,5-days long transnational project meetings. Achievements The most prominent output of the project is our “Tools for Learning – Tools for Sustainable Development” handbook for teachers’ modern, competence-based teaching on sustainable development, also intended for CSOs youth workers. It includes a detailed description of 8 innovative tools for non-formal learning focused on 3 thematic areas - spatial planning, waste reduction and climate change. The handbook suggests how to involve young people, provides instructions for step-by-step implementation of methods, presents learning outcomes as well as methods for assessing students’ attainment of learning outcomes. It’s available in four languages - Croatian, English, Italian and Slovenian, in digital and printed formats. Within the project each participating CSO produced 1 3-day training for the trainers, in total 10 non-formal learning tools were presented. Three 1-day workshops were held and allowed testing new non-formal learning tools with 42 young participants in 3 countries. Four presentations of the handbook were held for 47 teachers. Media published 33 reports on project, 45 web and social media updates were made. Project website was created. Two 2 1.5-days transnational meetings were held. 35 Youthpass certificates were issued.
