Change the Challenge - broadening the gender spectrum in the Mediterranean

Background The project was designed as the conclusion process of 5 years work on topics of gender, intersectionality, EuroMediterranean cooperation and antidiscrimination, started in 2015. The need that the consortium wanted to agrees was to face gender issues in an intercultural context by approaching the roots of inequality and challenging traditional gender roles; this process brought us to highlight the complexity of gender related topics and minorities in the Euromed cooperation, going beyond a limited binary view and being stuck by local situations during international youth project. After experiencing this approach overtime, we intended to systematize results from the dimension of educational choices to advocacy for youth policies. In response to institutions that are supposed to be promoters of a gender-sensitive approach and yet stuck on a simplistic, binary view of gender, this project aimed to share and systematize good practices to mainstream a gender-sensitive approach in the EuroMed youth field, keeping in mind the complexity of such an intercultural and interreligious context. Objectives The project’s specific objectives were: - to gather and systematize educational methods and practices, in order to guarantee an improved capacity and know-how of the organisations active in youth work, particularly related to the competence of civic engagement and networking; - to foster an innovative, intersectional view of gender throughout the EuroMed youth field that keeps in consideration and valorizes the intercultural and interreligious complexity; - to promote intercultural dialogue, promote knowledge about and acceptance of diversity in the EuroMed societies, that contribute to facilitate social inclusion of youth, especially minorities; - to reinforce the response of education and training systems and youth policies to one of the main challenges of today's world, respect for gender equity, through the development of civic and intercultural competences; - to foster a participatory approach in EuroMed cooperation, enhancing an equal exchange of contributions and competences, in order to counter a Eurocentric and neo-colonial approach and work on the capacity building in regards to the outreach and inclusion of young people with migrant backgrounds. Implementation In order to achieve the objectives in the project the following activities were done: 2 Transnational Project Meeting: - TPM 1: kick off meeting in Torino, Italy, July 2021; - TPM 2: evaluation meeting in Lodz, Poland, September 2022. 2 Learning Training and Teaching Activities: LTAA1: Joint staff training in Torino, Italy, December 2021; LTTA2: Joint staff training in Malaga, Spain, May 2022. 2 focus group: nation first round: february 2022 national second round: July 2022. 1 online campaign: September 2022. Achievements The project was a very intense learning journey, that include also conflicts and misunderstanding; despite all partners work in the topic, the geopolitical situation in a project such as the kA2 that requires a big effort of dissemination strongly affected the process; clearly in Region, the safety is a MUST, and any dissemination action must be wise. However, the consortium managed to create 2 output: The output concrete of the project have been: 1.CONTENT COLLECTION, that contains: material, article, video, tool, essays, movie, book collected in a padlet: Chance the Challenge PADLET; This is an open source that will be constantly updated and shared in workshop, training, event. 2.
