Digital health literacy for the hospital of the future

Digital tool start to become a reality in current medicine and will play an important role in the future. Only patients with good knowledge of digital health will have access and play an active role in this modern medicine. In order to democratize the medicine of the future, hospitals must offer all patients the opportunity to master digital tools, particularly those that would improve their health.

The main goal was to increase the digital health literacy for patients in digital break. To reach this goal, Pragma-TIC aimed to train frontline caregivers to become educators in digital health literacy (e-educator) for their patients with digital illiteracy. The project methodology wanted to allow e-educators and patients to progress in parallel and step-by-step in their respective training.

1. Inforef led the co-creation of a training platform with access for different users with several features (management, questionnaires, training module structure). It has been designed to be seen in the same way on any device (mobile or computer). 2. The project website was also implemented to make an easier coordination and communication between partners, and to disseminate the project to a large audience. 3. Scientific questionnaires have been selected for assessing empowerment and digital skills of the patients and usability of the system and translated with a back-and-forward translation methodology. 4. As part of the Image and Health Festival (Liège), we carried out communication actions with dozens of stakeholders (patients, nursing students, doctors, nurses, and general public). We also made a video explaining the purpose of Pragmatic, its methodology and why the coordinator (CHU de Liège) invited the partners involved in the project. 5. The Danish Partner (CEDIP) carried-out a nurse workshop where needs regarding digital health were highlighted.

The project delivered a solid communications plan that allowed dozens of people to learn about the project. Additionally, the project conducted extensive research into the best scientific questionnaires for assessing digital health literacy. The project created a logo and visual identity as well as developed of the project website in English and the languages of the partnership. In addition, the project delivered a robust study protocol which was accepted by the 4 Ethical Committees of the consortium. The project website has been used by all partners to facilitate project management and gather all the official documents in one single place. A part of the website was dedicated to disseminate the project to a large public. The ready-to-use platform is ready to host any kind of training module.
