Summary

The objective of the project was to promote a broader understanding among educators and students regarding the significance role of technology and science in global warming or environmental preservation. Often people, especially youth, their immediate association to this matter is solely focused on waste separation or collecting garbage. So through this project we aimed to expand this perspective by highlighting the crucial role of technology and scientific advancements in tackling global warming, by providing students and educators with a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) approach. Our goal was to enable students to engage with complex environmental data, simulate ideas, and develop innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of global warming. Overall, We observed that environmental topics were already incorporated into the standard school curriculum and Erasmus+ projects. However, there was a noticeable gap in education regarding the role of technological advancement in preserving the environmental while still providing our daily needs. While many young people and schools were actively promoting waste reduction and awareness, we aimed to introduce the importance of science and innovation to create globalchange.

Objectives

All goals in the application were achieved, namely: a) Familiarisation with climate change problems and solutions: to equip our students with knowledge about climate change, its causes, and potential solutions. b) Integration of climate change education across disciplines: Learning block coding for simpler coding, creative ways of raising awareness or app design and poster design using AI & coding tools. The trainings also included learning about Geopark preservations, ocean and sea preservations, green energy companies and the importance of innovation in this matter. c) Reaching common ideas and decisions regarding environmental protection: ways to engage school communities in discussions and decision-making processes related to environmental protection, fostering a sense of ownership and shared responsibility and the importance of their involvement; And inspiring them to take action on a bigger scale through innovation. d) Promotion of cultural understanding and the common global goal. e) Exchange of good practices of teachers and school curriculums across this European collaboration. f) Promotion of active citizenship and democratic principles: importance of nurturing active, informed, and responsible citizens.

Activities

The project consisted of three training mobilities, with the participation of two students and two teachers from each school. Hosting schools involved more students. These mobilities provided an opportunity for teachers and students to collaborate in a different environment, providing an environment for deeper communication & feedback on a professional and individual level. Additional to the mobility week (in which brief videos were made about), we created a booklet in which we shared our activities and the link to the power points for teachers to use or get inspired. In more detail activities (not limited to): a) The project aimed to provide a technology based pedagogical model and suggested accessible tools that support students in connecting cognitive skills with sustainable environmental awareness. b)Emphasis was placed on real-life applications, offering interactive and practical training. c)During the training, our main focus was on enhancing educators' competences through the exchange of good practices and mutual knowledge transfer.d)Various methods in critical thinking, collaboration, and innovative thinking skills. e)Introduced new technologies in education helping educators relate more to their students generation.

Impact

The project results consisted of three trainings that involved two teachers and two students per school, alongside two trainers from our coordinating NGO. Additionally, four final international conferences were organized in each respective country, targeting educators, students, families, and NGOs, with the purpose of disseminating the project. These conferences helped introduce the project, highlighted the importance of the training, interactive teaching methods, and the positive impact of Erasmus in providing valuable opportunities for schools and educators. For additional dissemination, we created a booklet to promote and share information about the project and our power point presentations for educators to use or be inspired by. The booklet is being promoted via social media platforms. The 1st mobility training in Romania focused on the history and current state of our planet, as well as providing general knowledge about EU legislation and the impact of technology on the environment. The 2nd mobility training in Lithuania, taught block coding and the impact of technology for environmental goals. 3rd mobility training in Denmark, was about ocean preservation, overfishing, and how to use AI tools for raising awareness.
