Connections through Comics and Music for the Social Integration of the Disadvantaged Youth
โถSummary
Comusyc was driven by the critical need to address the widespread phenomenon of social marginalization affecting young Europeans, particularly in the Mediterranean. Observing young individuals losing connection with their communities during the crucial transition from education to the workforce, we recognized an opportunity to intervene. Comusyc proposes an innovative solution: leveraging art and creativity to foster intercultural and transnational dialogues, thereby re-engaging marginalized youth. This project not only aims to bridge the gap between these individuals and society but also seeks to empower them by valuing their competencies and enhancing their employability. By providing a platform for expressing fears and aspirations, Comusyc stands as a beacon of hope, encouraging active participation in a democratic Europe and opening new pathways in the labor market. Our commitment to this initiative reflects our dedication to nurturing a more inclusive, engaged, and skilled youth population, ready to face the challenges of today's Europe.
โถObjectives
The project aims to revolutionize learning for marginalized youth by integrating cultural and artistic education into daily experiences. This initiative seeks to establish innovative pathways towards training and social integration. Central to Comusyc's strategy is the utilization of peer mentors aged 18-30, who play a pivotal role in motivating participants and involving them in the design and development of educational tools. By fostering an environment of active participation, the project endeavors to re-engage disenfranchised youth, facilitating their reintegration into society and the economy. Emphasizing the development of key competencies and soft skills aligned with the European Reference Framework for Lifelong Learning, Comusyc equips educators with flexible, effective methodologies. These strategies are designed to empower young individuals, enabling them to navigate and overcome the challenges they face, thereby transforming their lives through education. In summary, the pro aimed to bridge the gap between marginalized youth and education/social integration by leveraging cultural and artistic learning as a powerful tool for engagement, skill development, and youth empowerment.

โถImpact
In the initiation phase of the Comusyc project, National Comusyc Teams (NCT) were established in five countries: Spain, Belgium, Cyprus, Romania, and Bulgaria. These teams were composed of youth aged 18-30, who were directly recruited by the project partners with an emphasis on ensuring gender equality. The recruitment process aimed to reflect the diversity and aspirations of the youth within each country. The partners' role was to identify individuals who not only brought their creative energy but also represented a balanced cross-section of their communities. The formation of these teams was a critical first step, setting the stage for the subsequent phases of the project where these participants would actively engage in and contribute to the Comusyc initiatives. At the outset of Comusyc implementation phase, we developed essential guidelines for the execution of PR1 and PR2 activities. Delivered at the begin, these guidelines provided a detailed roadmap for partner engagement, output structuring, and a comprehensive work schedule, aligned with the pre-established framework. Following the establishment of the NCT the project progressed to the workshop stage (1.1). Partners across the 5 countries hosted workshops that brought together the members of the NCT. The workshops were designed to be a creative space where participants could express their views on creativity and contribute actively to the project's initiatives. The dialogues within these workshops aimed to promote awareness, stimulate innovation, and ensure participant engagement. The attendees collaborated to identify 10 exemplary practices in the use of music and visual arts to enhance youth participation. Then we embarked on the development of "Scenarios of Activation" 1.2. This endeavor aimed at cataloging 50 challenging daily situations faced by the youth, which could be reimagined through creative and critical approaches utilizing art and music. The aim was to develop a transnational (5 countries) document which would provide methodological insights on navigating barriers to marginalization and crafting non-formal educational interventions, with focus on NEETs. Building on the workshops and the Scenarios of Activation, we focus on the therapeutic aspects of music. The objective was to draft a set of Music Therapy Guidelines that would provide theoretical foundations and practical frameworks for establishing music therapy laboratories. These guidelines were designed to be a beacon for those navigating through the uncharted territories of "nonconventional music scenarios". Their purpose was to equip practitioners (mentors, peers) with the knowledge to use music as a tool for overcoming barriers that lead to marginalization and to aid in the development of informal and non-formal learning paths. 1.3 The creation of an Open Educational Resource (OER) was a pivotal task conceived as a digital canvas for participants to chronicle their experiences and interpretations of the scenarios. The goal of the OER was to function as an inventive diary for its users, providing a platform for them to record and share their experiences using videos. This aimed to foster a more personal engagement with the project's content and activities. To maximize the impact and accessibility of the project's methodologies and tools, we designed a learning package for both the target audience and music training providers, including volunteers and professionals working with youth, encompassing all project content. It was translated into all languages of the participating countries. With the establishment of the NCT, the completion of the first workshop, the development of the website, and the creation of the OER and the initial toolkit, all the objectives set for PR1 of the project have been accomplished. In PR 2.1 and 2.2, we focused on development and assessment. PR 2.1 initiated with implementing a tutor and mentor pathway, employing the NCT for pilot tests. The introduction of guidelines and a self-assessment template (pre and post) streamlined participant evaluation. We developed a digitally adapted E-manual, complemented by a toolkit, to integrate into partner activities, which bolstered the project's methods and application. A Digital Library with motivational videos was also created. In PR 2.2, we validated concepts and assessed the activities' impact. This phase included harmonizing the learning content and tools refined in the testing phase. The Comusyc pack was updated and disseminated to broaden audience access. We also developed an Impact Guide, outlining strategies for stakeholder engagement and amplifying the project's impact, crucial for dialogues with policymakers and assessing the project's long-term audience effects.
