Summary

The huge amount of written heritage needs some priorities for digitization. Some elements need digitization due to destruction processes, others due to rarity, and still others due to the high dem...

Objectives

The main objective of the project was to increase the capacity of librarians, archivists, collectors and library managers in the field of prioritizing items for digitization and attractive presentation of digital artefacts by creating appropriate training materials and training tools for target groups as well as training future trainers to ensure sustainability and reproducibility of results. One of the main objectives was to systematize, integrate and disseminate modern practices, not only among small libraries, but also among vocational education and training institutions as a means of renewing working methods and resources for educators and learners. The project provided online VET resources for the LMS with training materials. This project facilitates access to further training and qualifications through continuous VET (C-VET). Digitized learning content implemented in the LMS, digital training films and self-learning resources enable the target group to obtaining additional professional skills. The developed LMS enables the promotion of on-the-job learning or distance learning by providing an efficient and integrated service. The resources are available online for free use and for self-study: https://digiprior.eu

Activities

Project main activities: - project management (inc. monitoring, quality assurance, risk management etc.); - development of the following Project Results: Protocol/Methodology for selecting the materials (setting priorities) for digitization and interactive calculator for setting priorities for digitization; Competence Framework and Units text development; Approaches for attractive digital representation of the digital content and rising the motivation of young learners; LMS with training materials how to prioritize the materials for digitization; Content structured as units of learning outcomes and based on the ECVET approach, for assessment of achievements of training; Short digital movies with examples why some item has been selected for digitization process; - short-term joint staff training; - piloting activities; - dissemination.

Impact

The main objective of the Project Priorities in the Digitization of Books, Documents, Photographs and Modern Approaches to Promotion of Digitized Materials (DigiPrior) was to increase the capacity of librarians, managers of small and medium-sized libraries and archives in carrying out priority digitization of books, documents and photographs . To acquire skills in maintaining digital archives and how to promote and use already digitized materials in their work with a focus on young people and how to encourage the use of digital content. The project developed products and cooperated with partners in the field of continuing professional education and training (additional qualification, extracurricular training) The results we developed by the DigiPrior project are: 1. Protocol/Methodology for the selection of materials (determination of priorities) including the development of indicators for digitization and interactive calculator tool for setting the priorities for digitization; 2. Competency framework and module text development; 3. Approaches for attractive digital presentation of digital content and increasing the motivation of young learners; 4. LMS with training materials on how to prioritize digitization materials; Structured as units of learning outcomes and an ECVET approach to assessing learning outcomes; 5. Short digital movies with examples of why an item was chosen for digitization and the process, these movies are suitable for training (and related to LMS content); 6. Improved capacity of the target group via training activities.
