Summary

The project responded to a situation where the National Qualification System in the Czech Republic describes the qualification of Environmental Education Worker, but there is no corresponding offe...

Objectives

The project had two main outcomes. The first output was the creation of a draft international version of the qualification standard for environmental education worker, so that this standard (with minor national modifications) could be included in the national qualification systems in Slovakia, Hungary and in the future in other EU countries. In the Czech Republic we planned to modify the existing standard according to current challenges and trends. The second output of the project was the development and pilot testing of a methodology for a preparatory course to obtain the qualification standard for environmental education staff, such comprehensive training was also missing in all participating countries.

Activities

During the project, three transnational partner meetings were held, attended by two members of the project team from the participating organisation, during which project management (budget, schedule, etc.) was addressed. Around the middle of the project two pilot training sessions were held, these were attended by trainers and methodologists from the participating organisations, these sessions were used to train future trainers of the preparatory course. Subsequently, a pilot implementation of the preparatory course (according to the methodology developed in this project) for the qualification of environmental education officer was carried out in each country. At the end of the project we implemented an international professional workshop, which was attended by experts from environmental education centres, academia and government. This meeting was aimed at disseminating the results of the project and its implementation in practice.

Impact

Thanks to this project, an international version of the qualification standard for environmental educators was created in four languages (Czech, Slovak, Hungarian and English). The standard was based on the original Czech qualification standard, inspired by the American Guidelines for the Preparation and Professional Development of Environmental Educators (NAAEE) and current national and international challenges in the field of environmental education. Experts from the field of environmental education (mainly from the academic sector) and officials involved in the implementation into national systems (e.g. Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic, Slovak Environmental Agency) were involved in the consultation of the final version of the standard. The second result was the development of a preparatory course methodology (again in four languages), which was piloted in all participating countries within the project. The final methodology was developed based on the expertise of the participating organisations, experience from the pilot testing and consultation with experts (again mostly from the academic sector). A very important outcome of this project is the opening of a debate on the topic of the qualification standard.
