Narrative Accountability in Cultural and Community Settings

Narrative Accountability in Cultural and Community Settings was applied for as a pioneering project in this field. To develop within this newly emerging field of practice, the consortium decided to be the first to dive into research, generate knowledge, build a pan-European network, create innovative and unprecedented educational material as open source and barrier-free results and raise awareness. The interactive toolkit aims to assist vocational education and training (VET) providers in community and cultural settings. It aims to educate on narrative accountability, especially when working with marginalized groups and in situations with power imbalances. Bridging the communication gap between vulnerable groups, local businesses, VET providers and stakeholders, policymakers and artists, NACCS identified a special need for digital storytelling that works along the lines of ethics and social justice to support inclusive representation in narratives and provide just community development that represents diverse voices and incorporates cultural narratives. By pioneering in this field, NACCS aims to build a pan-European guideline on foundational principles of narration and storytelling, especially in the VET field.

The primary aim of the Narrative Accountability in Cultural and Community Settings (NACCS) project is to support VET organizations working with narratives to achieve responsible, equitable and socially inclusive practices. This is accomplished through several specific aims: Research: Understand current uses of NA across local, national and pan-European contexts, informing policy recommendations. Training: Develop competencies in trainers and educators to think critically about NA and utilize effective storytelling methods tailored for cultural and community contexts. Awareness: Raise awareness about the significance of NA, concerning marginalized groups’ stories, aiming to enhance ethical standards in storytelling. Peer Learning: Facilitate peer-learning opportunities for practitioners, to promote knowledge exchange and collaboration across different cultural contexts. Developing Resources: Create valuable tools and resources (toolkit, handbook, policy recommendations) that can be utilized by vocational education and training (VET) providers to enhance their educational delivery and create social inclusion practices in their work.These objectives support a broader understanding and application of NA in various educational settings
