STEM Education for Primary Schools
▶Summary
The participants in this project met through their participation -as coaches- in student teams participating in robotics competitions and their main common characteristic was their interest in teaching STEM-based subjects in primary education. The participants' aim was to create STEM-based Curricula that would include activities that could be implemented using simple means and materials and that would present a gradable range of difficulty in relation to the age of the participants, covering a broad spectrum of the reality that surrounds us. At the same time, an identified need -that the implementation of the Project was called upon to respond to- concerned the training of primary education teachers so that the latter would be able to respond to the role of STEM teacher-coach, with an emphasis on the creation of certified knowledge and skills for the teachers.
▶Objectives
The objectives sought to be achieved through the implementation of the Project are summarized as follows: Creation of STEM-based Curricula that include activities that concern the entire age range of Primary Education students and whose subject matter is related to and concerns the daily lives of students and the world that surrounds them. Training of Primary Education Teachers so that they are able to respond to the needs of their role as STEM teachers - coaches Creation of a Single Point of Reference for the educational community regarding the utilization of STEM-based Programs in the field of Primary Education. Creation of synergies with third-party programs and organizations active in this area. Creation of the basis for the certification of the knowledge and skills of primary education teachers regarding STEM teaching
▶Activities
The main activities implemented within the framework of the Project concern: The Management of the Project The development, evaluation and finalization of three distinct Curricula concerning all levels of primary education The development of indicators and tools for the evaluation of the material developed within the framework of the Project, as well as its results. The implementation of training activities for Primary Education teachers at the local level The implementation of pilot programs in Primary Education school units of the participating countries. The implementation of LTT activities in Athens with the participation of teachers from all participating countries in combination with the implementation of the Pan-European Robotics Competition The development, evaluation and operation of a Platform for distance education on which the material produced within the framework of the Project was posted in the languages of the participating countries, through which more than 150 teachers were trained. The holding of Multiplier Events in all the participating countries Dissemination activities though digital and social media
