โ–ถSummary

We are immersed in a Digital Age, that of Artificial Intelligence, which is increasingly present in our daily lives. But its evolution is not accompanied by an improvement in citizens' abilities to use it and take advantage of its benefits. AI is already being used for everyday matters such as finding a job, ordering food at home, finding an answer to a question or dealing with the bank. But there are also risks: manipulation of information, invasion of privacy, discriminatory biases... In this context, there are hardly any training resources aimed at the adult public. There is therefore a digital divide that has to do with people's different capacities to understand what AI is, how it can benefit them, how AI systems work and, most importantly, how to interact appropriately with it. In order to improve the level of AI digital literacy of all people ArIN has created educational resources that, at various levels of difficulty, together with a Trainer's Guide, help to bridge this gap and empower adults to enjoy the benefits of AI in their lives.

โ–ถObjectives

- Improve European adults' competences in AI literacy. - Contribute to the creation of an inclusive ecosystem where all European adults are equipped with basic skills to learn and adapt to a changing world dominated by AI. - Innovate in adult education by closing the gap in knowledge, skills and competences in a prospective field such as AI. - Empower adults to critically and safely use AI systems. - Harness the potential of ICT and game-based education to design engaging and motivating training resources for adult audiences. - Promote digital inclusion and active digital citizenship for European adults, especially those with fewer opportunities. - Increase the capacity and readiness of adult trainers and organisations to offer up-to-date AI literacy training opportunities and programmes. - Provide a new training pathway in the field of AI literacy, offering a training programme based on a tiered system, where less skilled adults can progress to higher levels of AI competences.

โ–ถActivities

The development of the project has been carried out around 4 main work phases, in addition to the transversal phases of management, evaluation and dissemination, which have been the necessary support to guarantee an optimal work and a significant impact on the target groups. Phase 1 - Research activities: 30 technology experts and adult educators in each country gave feedback on the exponential level of evolution and development of AI and its increasing integration into everyone's daily lives. Phase 2 - Development of the Training Programme: included the creation of content, gamified assessment elements (EduBreakouts) and guidance and resources for the development of adult trainers, along with the programming of the platform and translation. Phase 3 - Testing the Programme with 152 adults and adult trainers. Phase 4 - Analysis of Results and Improvements: creation of the final versions of the Educational Programme in AI Literacy.

โ–ถImpact

ArIN has developed an AI Literacy Education Programme for adults, as lack of preparation prevents them from reaping the full benefits of AI, while making them more vulnerable to the risks and dangers that AI can bring. The ArIN Education Programme has used the concept of AI literacy as a person's ability to understand what AI is, how it can benefit them, how AI systems work and, most importantly, how to engage and interact appropriately with AI. The Educational Programme has been designed around several elements: 1. The training modules, designed in three levels of difficulty to cater for less knowledgeable users and allow them to advance in their AI literacy process. 2. The evaluation is carried out through EduBreakouts, gamified activities that, through a Trivia game, allow students to check their level of acquired knowledge. 3. The trainer development guide and materials provide trainers with a resource to work with their learners on AI literacy in both online and offline environments. It includes a set of resources, such as case studies, sample lesson plans or concrete activities that they can implement or adapt for their work with their learners. The Educational Programme in AI Literacy is available online.
