Leveraging Individual SDG Contributions by University Staff

“Leveraging Individual sustainable development goals contributions from university staff” (SDG-iLevel) has been a project directly related to the horizontal priority on the environment and the fight against climate change, that aimed to promote innovation in higher education (HE) in the field of sustainable development (SD), through digital innovation and by providing tools and resources for improving the mental well-being of HE academics. In recent years, SD has become a prominent theme in HE. However, the contributions to the Agenda 2030 and the SDGs are predominantly seen and measured at the level of institutions or units, and individual contributions often go unnoticed and unappreciated. The consortium applied for this project to highlight and recognize the contributions made by individual academic staff, considering their different roles and responsibilities within the institution and with the community. Throughout the project, approaches, tools, and resources have been developed to uncover, leverage, and strengthen HE academics' individual contributions to the SDGs, thereby improving their mental well-being, job satisfaction, productivity, and teamwork, and fostering greater contributions to the SDGs.

The project has been ambitious and sought to achieve the following objectives linked to the project results: 1. Develop a conceptual framework to link university roles and responsibilities with individual contributions to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). 2. Enhance the training of academic staff with a better understanding of their real roles and their potential contributions to the SDGs. 3. Equip university academic staff with effective online tools to discover, promote and reinforce their individual contributions to the SDGs. 4. Build and reinforce the capacity of the university at the institutional level and at the departmental level to strategically promote individual contributions to the SDGs. 5. Facilitate the implementation of relevant policies in the departments of the participating universities. Other objectives linked to project impact are: 6. Improve the mental well-being, job satisfaction and productivity of university academic staff. 7. Increase awareness and general commitment to sustainable development in higher education institutions.
