▶Summary
The project was commissioned to address the urgent need to train professionals and teachers in key skills in applied artificial intelligence, one of the most in-demand areas in the labor market and in the digital transformation of education systems. Despite the growing interest in AI, there was a shortage of accessible, multidisciplinary, practice-oriented training options tailored to different profiles. Furthermore, a lack of open, up-to-date, and multilingual resources was identified that would allow for modular and flexible training in this field. Another important motivation was the demand for training from employees who need to adapt to the new AI context in companies, both at the technical and managerial levels. The project addressed these shortcomings by designing an innovative online course, hosted on a proprietary platform, with content in seven languages and a pedagogical approach aligned with European digital competence frameworks, thus ensuring its applicability and transferability in different contexts.
▶Objectives
The project's main objective was to design, develop, and pilot an innovative, accessible, multilingual, and modular training course in applied artificial intelligence that would enhance the digital and professional skills of students, university lecturers, and other technical professionals. The project sought to promote active and inclusive teaching and learning methodologies aligned with European frameworks such as DigCompEdu, EQF, and ECTS, and to facilitate the formal recognition of learning through microcredentials. It also aimed to foster collaboration between higher education institutions, research centers, and technology sector stakeholders to jointly address the challenges of digital transformation. The project also aspired to generate open and reusable resources accessible at the European level and to consolidate a sustainable community of practice capable of transferring the approach to other fields or educational contexts. An important aspect was the multilingual nature of the entire project to facilitate access for individuals with limited English proficiency or who felt more comfortable in their native language.
▶Activities
The project implemented a set of coordinated activities to achieve its objectives. Initially, the curriculum was developed, which served as the basis for the pedagogical design of the "University Expert in Applied Artificial Intelligence" course. Learning content was then developed in seven languages, structured into thematic modules, combining multimedia resources, practical exercises, and assessment tools. In parallel, the accessible, freely usable FuturIA training platform was designed and launched. During the pilot course phase, a real-life training experience was organized with more than 30 participants from different countries, validating both the content and the methodological approach. In addition, evaluation reports, a methodological guide, dissemination materials, and a competency framework were developed. The consortium carried out ongoing management activities, quality monitoring, dissemination through events, social media, the press, and European platforms, and transnational meetings to ensure a collaborative, effective, and transfer-oriented implementation.
▶Impact
The project generated a series of concrete, high-impact results. The main one was the development and launch of the multilingual online course "University Expert in Applied Artificial Intelligence," composed of more than 150 teaching units in seven languages, structured by level and professional profile. This course is certified with 15 ECTS credits with a joint certificate from the six universities, thanks to the joint certification agreement signed by all partners. Each teaching unit is independent and consists of a video, explanatory text, self-assessment, and activities. This course was hosted on the FuturIA platform, also developed by the project, and is freely accessible. A methodological guide for designing microcredentials was designed, along with a competency framework adapted to AI. A pilot course was run with more than 30 international participants, the results of which were systematized in evaluation reports. In addition, more than 250 outreach activities were carried out, with an estimated reach of more than 25 million people. These combined results contributed to strengthening the partner institutions' capacity to offer innovative and open training in applied AI.
