SCHOOL EDUCATION AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE
βΆSummary
According to the United Nations (UN), climate change is a consequence of human activity and is threatening the future of the Earth and our way of life. The UN points out that "global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have increased by almost 50% since 1990" or that "the oceans have warmed, the amount of snow and ice has decreased, and the sea level has risen by 19 cm (between 1901 and 2010)". Among other examples, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) underlines that these consequences affect all people, especially children. Despite this, the UN and UNDP emphasize that if "behavioral changes are adopted, it is still possible to limit the increase in global average temperature" and mitigate the negative effects of climate change. The EU, within the framework of the European Commission's 10 priorities, has and is developing actions to protect the environment and counteract the consequences of climate change. For example, promoting a low-carbon, climate-neutral and resource-efficient circular economy (European Green Pact). These actions are framed within the framework of the Youth Goals and the 2030 Agenda, as the EU has them as fundamental to its environmental policies.
βΆObjectives
The overall objective of this proposal is to generate knowledge on how to promote Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13 in primary education, in order to promote sustainable and responsible environmental behaviors in the new generations of European children. Due to all of the above, SEAC also pursues the following sub-objectives: 1. Contribute to making our localities, especially their youngest citizens (girls and boys in school education), aware of the Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13. 2. To have to our credit, both from the methodological aspect and in our portfolio of services, knowledge and skills to promote sustainable and responsible environmental behaviors in the new generations of European children. 3. To provide primary education teaching professionals with two intellectual outputs that they can use in their day-to-day work to raise awareness on climate change and promote green initiatives in their students. 4. To bring environmental issues closer to its youngest citizen
βΆActivities
In order to achieve the objectives, the following actions are proposed: 1. Conduct peer learning activities to exchange best practices on which competencies and tools are the most appropriate for raising awareness and educating children about climate change. This will be systematized in a virtual ToolKit of resources that can be used by primary school teachers. 2. To develop a virtual Educational Game (or online gamification process) that allows to acquire and develop environmental competences among primary school children, as well as to motivate them to promote Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13 in their communities/localities. This game can be used by primary school teachers in their classes and daily activities.
βΆImpact
PARTNERS AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS 1. The partners will exchange best practices and generate knowledge on how to raise children's awareness of climate change and educate them on climate change. environmental behaviors to these same primary school children. 2. Partners will identify competencies and tools on how to enhance the active citizenship of primary school children to promote Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13 in their localities. 3. The partners will generate relevance in their localities and regions as successful entities in the development of innovative methodologies (ToolKits and gamification processes) and in addressing Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13. 4. The partners will create links and networks, both among themselves and with local organizations, to work on generating innovative environmental behaviors and non-formal education methodology. BENEFICIARIES 1. Staff/Staff of the partners and School Education Teachers will have at their disposal an innovative method of teaching and evaluating environmental competencies. 2. These same target groups will increase their environmental frameworks and competencies in Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13. 3. These same target groups will learn about other educational realities, exchange best practices and generate knowledge that they can put into practice in their respective localities and institutions through transnational mobilities. 4. Children (primary school) will be given a voice on their needs, perspectives and proposals to address climate change at both local and European level. 5. These children will increase their environmental skills and knowledge of Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13. 6. These children will acquire sustainable and responsible environmental behaviors that they can put into practice and share with their peers in their localities. 7. Participating communities will be made aware of the consequences of climate change and what actions they can take to counteract its effects. 8. A European cooperation network for the achievement of Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13 will be consolidated throughout the EU (especially in Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania and Sweden). OTHER STAKEHOLDERS 1. Key educational agents outside this project, such as schools, colleges, institutes, universities, political authorities, parents' associations, foundations, associations, will benefit, as they will have at their disposal a ToolKit with methodologies, resources and tools on how to raise awareness and educate girls and boys on climate change (through the Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13). 2. These same key educational agents will benefit from the availability of a (virtual) Educational Game to promote sustainable and responsible environmental competencies among primary school children. 3. The general public (especially from partner localities/communities) is expected to increase their knowledge on climate change, Youth Goal 10 and SDG 13.
