Greener Green schools: Developing sustainability practices in primary schools

We applied for this project because we recognize the critical importance of instilling eco-consciousness in young minds and communities. By addressing the identified needs of providing digital tools, training, and collaboration platforms, we aim to cultivate a generation committed to sustainability from an early age. Our project seeks to make primary schools across Europe greener, empower teachers and students with digital and environmental literacy, and align with the European Green Deal objectives. Through this endeavor, we strive to foster a collective commitment to building a more sustainable future.

By implementing this project, our main objectives are to make primary schools in Europe greener by embracing and contributing to the aims of the Green Deal, to train teachers on sustainability principles and innovative practices, to enhance digital skills of both teachers and students, to teach pupils how to identify and adapt to a greener, sustainable Europe, to raise awareness among families and communities about the importance of sustainability, and to actively involve European citizens in the priorities of the European Commission, ultimately fostering tangible and rewarding actions towards a greener future.

In our project, we implemented a series of activities across three stages. In Stage 1, we focused on preparation and research, developing essential frameworks such as project management, quality assurance, and dissemination plans. We also created project branding elements and initiated the implementation phase with the Design of Methodology for identifying competences and digital skills. Stage 2 involved rigorous implementation efforts, including the development and testing of an e-learning course and Assessment Tool, alongside comprehensive progress tracking and dissemination activities. Finally, Stage 3 saw the compilation of final reports, intensified dissemination efforts, and the completion of project outcomes, ensuring sustainability beyond project completion.

The project aimed to produce tangible outcomes across multiple dimensions, primarily targeting European schools to foster greener practices. It introduced the Greener Green training program, an e-learning initiative tailored for teachers, focusing on implementing changes in schools' physical environments, everyday practices, curricula, and communication strategies regarding sustainability. Additionally, the Greener Green Assessment Tool was developed, serving as a digital evaluation instrument for teachers and staff, providing feedback, suggestions for improvement, and action plans, while also incorporating a motivational "Green Positive Reinforcement" system. Furthermore, the project included Training of Trainers sessions, local workshops, webinars, and multiplier events to disseminate knowledge and engage stakeholders. Finally, dissemination activities such as social media presence, presentations, and articles ensured the project's visibility and impact beyond its immediate participants, contributing to a broader sustainable education agenda in European schools.
