Summary

The general idea of the project is framed within the 2030 Agenda developed by the UN on sustainable development. The objective is to promote the values of sustainability and the growth of a global...

Objectives

Beyond the global nature of the issue we are dealing with, our action aims to specifically target those professionals, educators, trainers, tutors who, by virtue of their role, have the possibility to reproduce a message, raise awareness and promote a daily debate made of practice and innovation. Through the improvement of digital skills and the internalisation of the concepts and values of the SDGs by these people, whom we define as 'Sustainability Makers', we believe that we can amplify a message and install human 'loudspeakers' capable of reaching a wider audience than a simple direct action. With this project we wanted to use and promote a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and technological approach to prepare and train our Sustainability Makers. Our aim was to empower teachers and, more generally, the educational community, even in disadvantaged contexts, with the possibility of carrying out an innovative and action-oriented action, thus increasing the attractiveness of VET and its resilience to digital transformation.

Activities

The project was developed in two phases, a first phase in which the contents of our results were elaborated, i.e. an e-learning platform with different modules to work on the SDGs in the classroom, and a 2D game embedded in the platform and part of the same educational proposal. To this end, we activated several working groups in all countries, mainly made up of VET teachers themselves, who helped us to define and improve the content and, above all, with their presence, not to lose the real perspective of the classroom. We also involved teachers in local and international training activities on the possibilities of digital tools and the use of our platform. This preparation and promotion helped us to develop a second phase in which we carried out different pilot experiences in six EU countries (Spain, Greece, Portugal, Belgium, Romania and Italy), where it was possible to test our results, evaluate the quality and performance and make small improvements and suggestions, which were finally reflected in a manual: 'How to put the SDGs into practice in the classroom through digital tools'.

Impact

With the actions we carried out during the project, we achieved: - Create an e-learning platform of 19 modules + 1 game to work on sustainability in the classroom, which includes 55 educational activities related to specific action areas for each SDG and with several calls to action that students can carry out. - A 2D game, designed to engage students and stimulate learning, in which the player has to go through 6 different scenarios to help a time traveller return to the future by overcoming tests related to the 5Ps of sustainability. - An educational proposal, reflected in a practical guide for teachers, capable of encompassing all these educational tools. - 20 pilot experiences in 9 VET centers in 6 European countries. - A handbook containing both the practical guide for teachers and the most significant pilot experiences to inspire and promote new experiences. - 137 professionals, involved between the process of intellectual production and the experimentation phase. - The availability of our platform and results in seven different languages of the European Union.
