Developing strategies, practices and finding solutions for saving the world from Climate Change by using STEM education model and finding out new innovation methods for saving Renewable Energy
▶Summary
We were worried about our living-enviroments and wanted to fight against climate change. We wanted to spread knowledge about these things to students, their families and near-surroundings where they live. In every mobility we were thinking about: -Energy and resources -Environment and climate change -Using Science-, Technology-, Engineering- and Mathematics (STEM) MODEL in teaching etc
▶Objectives
Our main goal was to find strategies, practices and finding solutions for saving the world from Climate Change by using STEM education model and finding out new innovation methods for saving Renewable Energy. It is important to see how these topics are implemented in different countries. Exchange of ideas and developing communication skills in this special area is also very important. We’ll have new ideas for teaching these subjects, a large co-operation network, different ideas to our everyday- life after this project. We also wanted to learn more about energy, RE, energy resources of all Europe, effects of CC and environment to our lives and RE. We don't want to waste energy, teachers want to develop students' 21st century skills by conducting them to scientific and environmental activities, implement STEM and energy- thinking into lessons.
▶Activities
Macedonia: We had workshops on Renewable energy sources, eco education, hand made paper. We also made green-city models and get knowledge about water-power (museum of electricity and water-power at Canyon Matka. Students made green-city models in two work-shops. Turkiye: -Theory and workshop on windrose and turkish renewable energy systems. -Tour at Cappadocia- getting know how waste-management, tourism and people acts meet. -Workshop on pottery -Visit to university of Mersin and different schools at Mersin. Knowledge about waste-management, space, RE- systems. -Workshop on STEM. Finland: -Visit to the Weather DPT of Finland- counting wind rose and how to place Wind-generators in Finland -Visit to Asko-furniture factory’s solarpanel- park. -Lecture about carbon-neutral Joensuu (Maija Kuivalainen) -Lectures from the experts about waste management and wind energy -STEM. University of eastern Finland -National presentations on the ways of waste management. Visit to a finnish waste-management institute at Joensuu -Workshop: Solar panel calculation
▶Impact
Each participant got lot of new information about the area what we were concentrated on. All the countries are in different level on this area. Macedonia has lot of to do in fighting against climate- change, Turkiye is in the middle and Finland is like showing direction how to make these things. There is a lot of willingness in each country to save the planet to future generations. We got a lot of contacts and information from each other. Now we had to put all more into the practise. It’s not easy, for example because of politics. All the workshops were good and put the project forward. Students learned a lot about communication skills and 2.0 working tools. Also all the visits into different places in different countries really opened eyes. We are sure that when we have changed and shared all these ideas about STEM, RE and sustainable development good things happen in all countries. And our part in fight against climate-change is in better mood. FI: E- book of waste management MKD: Video about the steps, when making green-city model TU: 4 different lesson plans on STEM
