Virtual learning environment in smart mini factory
▶Summary
The project partners had varied motivations: YSAO: Acquired an SMF factory, seeking knowledge and skills enhancement in Industry 4.0, aligning with regional demand. MERCANTEC: Invited due to expe...
▶Objectives
The VLEFACT project, a collaborative effort among YSAO, MERCANTEC, CBS, and SAVONIA, aimed to enhance smart factory learning. It brought together diverse expertise to achieve common objectives. Project modules covered topics like AR, cobot collaboration, digital twins, sensor data, and data-driven manufacturing. Practical case studies and real-world applications were emphasized, fostering a rich learning environment. The collaboration went beyond tangible outcomes, creating a European network and promoting continuous cooperation. The project's success lies in its collective impact on smart factory education, offering a comprehensive and immersive learning experience for participants.
▶Activities
The VLEFACT project encompassed various activities: Project Management: Coordination of overall project activities Defining project objectives, activities, outcomes, and budget Managing partnership dynamics, resolving conflicts, and promoting teamwork Monitoring project progress, timelines, budget utilization, and deliverables Project Meetings: Online and on-location meetings for planning, coordination, and decision-making Steering committee establishment during the kick-off meeting Development Activities: Designing and developing Learning Modules (LM) on smart factory topics Crafting comprehensive instructions for AR feature implementation Creating Micro Units (MUs) on various subjects, enhancing learning experiences LTTA and ME Events: Learning, Teaching, and Training Activities (LTTAs) focusing on practical tasks Multiplier Events (MEs) showcasing project outcomes and achievements Workshops on troubleshooting, VR programming, sensor communication, and more Dissemination Activities: Sharing project materials on the VLEFact project portal Efficiently managing the project's website and social media channels Publishing peer-reviewed scientific articles on the VLEFACT website Promoting continuous dissemination through various channels These diverse activities collectively contributed to the success and impact of the VLEFACT project, fostering collaborative learning and enriching the smart factory education experience for participants.
▶Impact
The collaborative project produced concrete results across five learning modules. Notable achievements include developing Micro Units (MUs) covering communication techniques, controlling methods, and applications like turning and working with digital twins. Practical case studies were organized, emphasizing real-world applications. Technical challenges in LM4 led to using Google Cloud and IoT Cloud for prototype purposes. LM5 focused on data collection and analysis, sending data to Siemens Mindsphere for analysis, and utilizing Azure to create dashboards for factory management. The smart factory concept was integrated into teaching lab works, locally and remotely, enabling corrective actions in industrial manufacturing. Future developments are planned to incorporate cyber security measures and data transmission standards.
