▶Activities
'Anchoring Social Circular Economy Attitudes in VET (SCE-VET)' has initiated a range of transformative activities designed to embed social entrepreneurship and circular economy (SCE) principles into vocational education and training (VET). Aimed at providing enduring benefits for teachers, students, and entrepreneurs, the project emphasizes sustainable practices and the development of green skills. At the heart of the project lies the creation of the Social Circular Economy Guide, a comprehensive resource developed in collaboration with nine European organizations. This guide equips educators with practical tools to seamlessly integrate SCE into their curricula. It features country-specific strategies, an innovative Social Circular VET Education Method Canvas, and an online MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), which collectively make SCE principles widely accessible to VET institutions throughout Europe. To promote awareness and foster collaboration, the project introduced the Social & Circularity Day event concept that encourages the exchange of ideas through workshops, best practice sharing, and stakeholder meetings. This scalable initiative is designed to facilitate green skills training and drive systemic change within VET education, ensuring that sustainable practices become embedded in the learning environment. For entrepreneurs and industry professionals, the project conducted a Mapping of SCE Integration in Society, surveying 81 organizations across Europe. This assessment explored the application of SCE principles across various sectors, identifying both opportunities and challenges. The insights gained from this survey have been instrumental in helping educators and businesses adopt circular economy strategies that align with the evolving needs of the labor market. In an effort to gauge student engagement, the project also implemented a Student Attitude Survey to assess awareness of SCE principles. The results revealed a strong interest among students in environmental protection and job creation linked to SCE, highlighting the critical need to embed these principles into VET programs. This connection is vital for preparing students for sustainable career paths in an increasingly eco-conscious world. The development of the Anchoring Social Circular Economy Course further illustrates the project's commitment to innovative education. Delivered through a MOOC, this course blends digital learning with real-world applications, featuring four comprehensive modules on Circular Economy, Social Entrepreneurship, Social Circular Economy, and On-the-Job Training. The course has been tested by over 100 students, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness in addressing the demands of the green job market. Additionally, the Social Circular VET Education Method Canvas serves as an interactive framework that aids teachers, students, and entrepreneurs in aligning SCE concepts with real-world sustainability challenges. This tool fosters collaborative learning and innovation, encouraging a shared commitment to sustainable practices within the VET sector. The Learning, Teaching, and Training activities within the SCE-VET project have had a significant impact on the integration of SCE principles in VET. These activities, which included workshops, and hands-on training sessions. Participants reported enhanced teaching methodologies, improved student engagement, and a greater commitment to sustainability within their institutions. Study visits allowed partners to exchange best practices and learn from each other’s experiences in implementing SCE principles. Study visits in Spain, the Netherlands, and Finland provided valuable insights into different approaches to curriculum development and stakeholder collaboration. These visits not only strengthened partnerships among the participating organizations but also enabled them to adapt and adopt successful strategies tailored to their local contexts. Engaging stakeholders in discussions and workshops created a network of support that promotes sustainable practices and innovative solutions in VET and has laid the groundwork for sustainable practices and green skills development. In terms of dissemination, the project organized a series of multiplier events across partner countries, which served as a platform for sharing the project's findings and resources with a broader audience. These events fostered collaboration among educators, industry stakeholders, and policymakers, promoting networking opportunities that enhance the overall impact of the initiative. To support ongoing collaboration among stakeholders, the project launched the SCE Network Platform, a user-friendly website that offers a wealth of resources, including best practices, case studies, and educational tools. This platform ensures continuous support for educators, entrepreneurs, and students, all while promoting environmental sustainability and social inclusion through a dynamic collection of materials.
▶Impact
A range of concrete outputs and significant results aimed at embedding social entrepreneurship and circular economy (SCE) principles into vocational education and training (VET) across Europe. One of the standout achievements of the project is the development of the Social Circular Economy Review, a Guide. This central output provides VET educators with a practical framework to integrate SCE into their curricula. Originally conceived as a review, it evolved into a comprehensive guide that includes country-specific examples from Belgium, Finland, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Spain. The guide is complemented by the Social Circular VET Education Method Canvas, which serves as a strategic tool for designing SCE programs. By simplifying complex concepts and showcasing best practices, this guide enriches teaching methodologies and encourages real-world applications of circular economy principles in education. The Social & Circularity Day initiative emerged as another innovative output, designed to raise awareness about the environmental and social challenges of circular economy practices. This flexible event concept format promotes collaboration among VET institutions, students, social entrepreneurs, and stakeholders. By offering workshops, best practice sharing, and networking opportunities, the event equips participants with green skills and insights into social circularity, ensuring its relevance across different educational and organizational contexts. The Mapping of SCE Integration in Society provided crucial insights into how SCE principles are currently applied across various industries in eight European countries. Conducted through a comprehensive survey of 81 organizations spanning 15 sectors, this mapping identified both the challenges and opportunities for implementing circular economy practices. The findings helped tailor strategies for educators, businesses, and policymakers, enabling them to align their approaches with sustainability goals while highlighting regional variations influenced by cultural, regulatory, and resource factors. The Student Attitude Survey was instrumental in evaluating student awareness and attitudes toward SCE before and after engaging with the project’s educational resources, particularly the MOOC. With participation from 463 students across multiple European countries, the survey revealed a significant increase in awareness regarding the importance of SCE in job creation and environmental protection. Notably, 68% of students who completed the MOOC recognized its potential to improve society and the environment, underscoring the effectiveness of the project in shaping positive attitudes. The Anchoring Social Circular Economy Course, delivered as a MOOC, provided a blended learning experience that covered crucial topics such as Circular Economy, Social Entrepreneurship, and On-the-Job Training. Tested by over 100 students, the course was designed to prepare them for the evolving green job market through engaging content, including quizzes, videos, and real-world applications. This flexibility aligns with the EU’s Green Deal objectives, equipping students with the green skills necessary for future labor market demands. To facilitate ongoing collaboration, the SCE Network Platform was created as a user-friendly digital resource. This platform houses an extensive range of materials, including best practices, and the SCE MOOC, serving as a long-term tool for promoting environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and knowledge-sharing among VET institutions and social enterprises. The Social Circular VET Education Method Canvas was developed to aid educators, students, and entrepreneurs in implementing SCE concepts effectively. This interactive framework provides a visual roadmap that encourages collaborative learning and innovation, aligning SCE principles with real-world challenges and enhancing educational experiences. The long-term impact of the SCE-VET emphasizes sustainability and inclusiveness in education, supporting key EU initiatives such as the Green Deal. The outputs produced—such as the guide, MOOC, and network platform—are designed for continued use, ensuring that educators, students, and entrepreneurs will benefit from the project’s outcomes for years to come. The SCE-VET has established a robust foundation for future collaborations, driving systemic change within VET and preparing students for a green, inclusive economy. By promoting green skills and emphasizing social responsibility, the project leaves a lasting impact on the VET landscape, contributing to a more sustainable future for all. The success of this initiative is supported by its broad reach and engagement, demonstrated through various dissemination channels, including best practice videos and toolkits designed for diverse audiences across Europe. These outcomes collectively foster innovation, sustainability, and inclusiveness, preparing a socially responsible workforce for the future.
